What are the effects of this? I was on a nofap streak of 54 days and I caved, ended up fapping 5 times within 12 hours. Is there anything I can do to balance out the hormonal effects of this mistake? This is not meant to be a troll post, so serious advice is greatly appreciated!

Why don't you download Tinder and get laid?

Or just walk to a bar in a busy area of your city and talk to a girl?
Hell even street pickup works better than most think

There is no effect. Any effect is largely mental, completely in your head. Take some zinc for a few days if you want. You'll live.

I don't know how you go about offering advice that he didnt ask for but on that note...

@CDT I am not sure why you are doing nofap, whether its to get laid, or some spiritual nonsense, or for "self-improvement". Learn from someone who is gone on much longer streaks then you, its mental. The temporary minor positive effects is caused by built up sexual tension which is not good in the long run. Also your own confidence is improved because you no longer do the thing your ashamed about. It won't make you a better man, or better at talking with girls, or give you the energy to be successful or whatever ***t people are still doing this thing for.

The moment I broke my longest streak is the moment I realized what a literal pile of ***t it was. I was literally a chick magnet as soon as I broke my streak, and a people magnet in general. Do you know why? Because I stopped shaming myself for caving in to urges, this lifted a great weight off my shoulder, and not being ashamed of your sexual urges rubs off on women around you. Being a free man not bound by the moralistic vomit that is the nofap mentality improved my health. Never did it again after that.

Lisuride lowers prolactin apparently but it's not over the counter, maybe a mg or two of cypro would lower stress hormones? I beat myself up too when I fap too much, it doesn't feel good. But...we are men and testosterone is a helluva drug

He’s asking for a way to balance out the hormonal effect of his mistake.

My answer to him is to get a normal social life that includes meeting persons of the opposite sex and having interactions with them.

That’s an advice that goes as a remedy to his query.

Glad it enabled you to go on a tangent as well

I don’t believe in the masturbation affects you. It did for me while I was in bad health. Once i corrected it orgasm/masturbation doesnt affect me like that anymore. Although ofc you get a little bit tired thats totally normal. If you feel you have an addiction or craving for porn I think you have a lack of dopamine. I used to watch porn a lot myself and felt it did affect me to a certain degree. But nofap or not my health didnt improve. Now a days I do have a girlfriend and porn doesnt interest me at all anymore. So maybe thats something. I don’t know. They make porn so that you are supposed to get addicted. But its nothing dangerous to it at least. In my opinion your allowed yo masturbate as much as you want as long as it doesnt involve looking at porn. It destroys your ability to live or do it witbout it. And it will affect you when/if you have a girlfriend.

Agree to this. People are ashamed watching porn because the ritual has always since the beginning been a shameful thing. Even hustler etc back then. Accept that it is normal to want it. Do it as much as you want. When you stop caring it will stop affecting you.

Interesting. I am coming to a similar understanding about the mental benefits. What about something like desentisation to porn though and porn induced erectile dysfunction. What about porn in general?

Were you just talking about fapping, or fapping to porn? There is a difference IMO ...

Fair point however indirect the advice is.

Both, porn can increase the chance of erectile dysfunction but make no mistake, just masturbating can do it on its own. I've personally read in nofap community those with long streaks still not being able to get up when they finally land a babe in their bed and they basically get a mental breakdown when before when they PMO this was not the case. Severe sexual shame can increase all the wrong hormones and cause ED over time as bad hormones will decrease androgens over time and damage the body.

First, it depends on what you watch. Only being able to get off on outlandish way out of the norm crap can increase the chances of ED when it comes to real sex. But this should not be the case. If you are forced to watch nastier things to even get off and a single naked girl can't do it for you, this is mostly a metabolic problem.

Low testosterone and/or DHT, high estrogen/prolactin, mostly lacking important nutrients for sexual function. This is why ED always gets worse as the years go on for many men. It is because they are unhealthy and one's health always degrades over time if you do nothing about it. Androgens always decline with age unless you have a healthy diet or take active steps to preserve your health.

For those who do have ED, increasing nutrient intake through proper foods is of prime importance. This will fix the the tendency to get off to hardcore stuff and allow you to get off of a simple naked body.

Then your ED problems melt away. It was never a porn problem as many anti-porn folk would have you believe, its a health problem. I personally believe the anti-porn nonsense thats being shoved down everyones throats lately is just another attempt to control men, and make them ashamed of sex and their own instincts.

Zinc, B-vitamins, especially B6(anti-prolactin), Vitamin C, folate being the most important for men.

Yeah, I do think shame plays a big part in it. I am one of the guys (super young, too) who suffered from ED and went the NoFap route only to see myself be worse off after long streaks where I was completely numb.

On the other hand, a change in mindset has led to improvements. Nutrition too but that part is still hard for me to figure out.

You may feel a bit down and depressed for a week or two. That'll pass. No real effect by doing it once or twice, but if you do this continually for years it'll erode your dopamine receptors and your ability to bond and have fun with people.

Yes I concur with the numbness that appeared the longer my streaks that did not go away. This BS about flatlining means nothing when you are "flatlining" for over 3 months. Partly because I unconsciously ate less healthfully and less calories as a mean to control urges. Dropping cals kills the sex drive quickly. My theory is that most men end up doing something to lower androgens either with food, or sleep, etc. It certainly was the case for me.

I am also very young, ED is not supposed to be happening to young men, but as our diets and lifestyles get worse we look for the wrong things to blame. Porn is the wrong thing to blame.

If I can offer advice on diet, red meats, potatoes, fruits are helpful. Calories are the big one though and can help immensely. Milk can have bad effects on hormones for some. Oysters have aphrodisiac effects especially because of high zinc and in general high mineral content. B-complex will also help because basically most of us end up with subadequate B-intake due to modern living(increased stress/chronic stress of any kind saps B levels)which plays an important role androgen production.

Vitamin C makes me fap.

No surprise seeing as Vitamin C has a direct role in hormone production:

Oysters, eggs, milk, meat, sugars, basically a peaty diet, just allow yourself time to sexually recover lol.

Porn is unnatural. From an amoral POV, PMO allows for all the sexual satiation without any of the work required. It undermines the drive to actually pursue mates. Of course, in a highly sexual creature, this undermining might not hold one back at all, but in a sexually comprised individual, it may seriously retard one from copulating.

Take all that sexual energy, which nature gave us to reproduce, and then splurge it into a tissue. The feeling is not and will never be comparable to releasing with a significant other, including the post-coital interactions and relationship solidification. It’s like eating súcralose vs sugar. One gives you the sensation of something sweet, while the other is the real deal. One is a fake mimicry, while the other actually has pro-health effects.

Have those who advocate for porn usage ever felt the surge of oxytocin from being with a SO? PMO is far from that, and just leaves the individual wanting for the real thing.

When Im in a good relationship, the thought of porn never even crosses my mind. It’s only when im single that the idea of it comes up. I think the abuse of porn has more to do with the fall of love than anything else.

Porn is not a substitute for sex and it never should be. You are supposed to outgrow it. When you have a sexual partner you wont PMO, but when you arent with one the urge for release is still there. Many do not have long term partners, or have had and no longer do, or have never had sex ever. The problem is virgins are taught in the nofap community that they are virgins because of porn, they are sexless because of the porn industry. If they just stopped PMO they would be successful again in every facet of life.

In reality, they were losers before PMO, and will still be because thats who they are. Not fapping will not make you not a loser. You have to stop being a loser. You have to stop being a nobody, be a somebody. And then all of sudden porn isn't a problem. Its a copout for failures and its advertised as the ticket to being successful.

Well said @Runenight201

I do agree @redsun that the 'no fap' movement has become pretty cultish and overblown. But it can also help someone focus and show themselves they can accomplish something - no harm in that. And I do think PMO can be addictive for some, and that that IS a problem (teaches people to be lazy etc).

Beyond that, and this will be TMI for some of you, but if you have the horrible specter of childhood sexual abuse in your life, I can pretty much guarantee that PMO is unhealthy. Period.

I think a desire to watch porn and masturbate is caused by excess nitric oxide. Have you ever tried methylene blue?

I dont think the effects are 100% mental. They may be for invidual people, but hey not everyone has the same hang ups regarding sex. An example is the Japanese - sex and particularly porn are not considered shameful at all, they use it heavily, and they seem to be the worst affected. Cant blame that on Catholic guilt or anything.

The chapter in The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge is pretty interesting. It pretty much paints heavy porn use as a powerful addiction, with all the associated changes in brain chemistry.
